  • Union Budget 2022-23: Food of 11 crore childrens of the country is being snatched away gradually, Says, Rajendrasinh B Chudasama

     

    New Delhi: Food and nutrition were highlighted in this year’s budget presented in the parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. However, children might not get the benefit of good food.  Schemes for children such as Poshan 2.0, which provide integrated benefits to women and children, did not get any additional funds this year.

    In 2022-23, an estimated budget of Rs 10,234 crore has been sanctioned to the Pradhan Matri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) programme. This scheme was earlier known as the ‘National Program of Midday Meal in Schools’ and provided hot cooked meals to school children between the ages of 6 and 14 years. Last year, the revised estimate was Rs 10,234 crore. 

    In case of Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 schemes (umbrella Integrated Child Development Schemes which provide supplementary nutrition to children below six years), Rs 20,263 crore was made available. Last year’s revised estimate was Rs 20,000 crore. Both represent 0.5 per cent of the total budget.  

    In the Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana, similarly, there has been only a marginal increase in the budget allocation. This scheme ensures good food to pregnant and lactating women. 

    The allocation for the scheme has gone up to Rs 2,622.11 crore in this budget, compared to the revised estimate of Rs 1,862 crore in 2021-22. Last year, this was 0.05 per cent of the total budget while it is 0.07 per cent of the total budget this year.

     Rajendrasinh B Chudasama, President-PM Nutrition Mid day Meal Scheme Employees Union Gujarat Pradesh said the budget does not show any interest in children and their nutrition. What is shocking is that the provision of Rs 25,000 crore in this budget is 1.31 lakh crore of the PM nutrition scheme which has been announced for five years.  There was a provision of Rs. 12000 crore in 2022, there was a provision of Rs. 11000 crore, now there is a provision of Rs. 10000 crore in 2022-23.  Among the big issues, the food of 11 crore children of the country is being snatched away like slow poison. 

    During the pandemic, the government provided additional ration to the families but the budget does not indicate any cognisance of the importance of ensuring nutrition.

    Last year’s budget also had given a short shrift to nutrition for children. The budget estimate on nutrition had gone down to Rs 2,700 crore in 2021-22 from Rs 3,700 crore in 2020-21. 

    This lacuna is despite the fact that the budget this year has components that promote good food. For example, the government plans to promote millets. The world will be celebrating the International Year of Millets in 2023. The government will support post-harvest value addition to improve consumption domestically and also brand them internationally.

    As per The Verge, the “Kids Clips” feature uses a similar interface to TikTok or Instagram Reels in an attempt to surface child-friendly content and is designed to show short clips taken from its library of children’s content.

    But while competing services are primarily formatted for viewing in portrait, Kids Clips’ videos are designed to be viewed in landscape.

    Kids Clips joins a similar feature Netflix launched to promote its comedy content earlier this year called “Fast Laughs”.

    Both features have a similar aim: to promote Netflix’s content using short clips similar to what users are already watching on social media.

    Netflix has cited TikTok as a major competitor in past earnings reports, suggesting these features are aimed at stealing time away from the service by focusing on more short-form content.

    However, while competing social networks are criticised for sucking away hours of users’ time, as per sources, Kids Clips limits the amount of clips users can watch in a single sitting to 10 to 20 clips. It sounds like a sensible limitation in light of the younger audience the feature is designed for.

    Kids Clips is launching this week in markets including the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and Spanish-speaking Latin America. There’s no word on if or when the feature may come to Android.

    Twitter Spaces was launched in November 2020 to compete with Facebook’s Clubhouse. Any user with a Twitter account was allowed to join a space, but only Twitter account holders with a minimum of 600 followers were allowed to host a space. Now, a year after its launch, a few major updates have been released that are aimed at widening the reach of Twitter Spaces to users across the web. Most notably, Twitter says that accessing the Spaces section will no longer require a Twitter account.

    Thanks to this update, users can share direct links to Spaces with others, and invitees can attend the sessions even without logging into their accounts. Users without Twitter accounts can also access Spaces via Twitter’s Web version.

    However, there are a few restrictions to these changes. At the moment, these updates are limited to the web browser. It is expected that Twitter will extend this feature to its Android and iOS app in the coming months. Also, non-account holders will not have the option of hosting Spaces or engaging in conversations, but can simply access the audio. Twitter Spaces currently allows up to 13 members to speak in a single session (this includes a host and two cohosts).

    Twitter has made several changes recently in the Spaces section to enhance user experience. All account holders, including those using the app version, can host a Space, even if the number of followers on their accounts is below 600. Another change has allowed hosts to record their audio sessions, which gives them access to the same for 30 days. The recording and replay features allow users to listen to audio conversations even after their conclusion. They are expected to arrive soon for Android users. In order to take advantage of the full set of benefits, it is suggested that users sign up for a new Twitter account.

The short-video platform saw most downloads in Douyin, China (17 percent), followed by the US at 11 percent. TikTok used to enjoy huge popularity in India as well; however, it now remains banned due to security reasons. Followed by TikTok, Meta-owned (formerly Facebook) apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp took the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. Interestingly, data shows Telegram was the fifth most downloaded app worldwide last month. Earlier last month, the company announced the app surpassed one billion installs on Google Play Store following the massive Facebook outage that helped Telegram gain 70 million new users. Indian social e-commerce app Meesho also took the eighth spot with 25 million instals across platforms last month.

    As per Sensor Tower, Instagram had over 56 million downloads across app stores that also means a 31 percent increase from October 2020. The countries with the largest number of Instagram installs were from India at 39 percent, followed by Brazil at 6 percent. As mentioned, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram rounded out the top five most installed non-gaming apps worldwide, but the exact instal figures remain unclear. The company notes these estimates include downloads for the App Store and Google Play worldwide between October 1 and 31, 2021.

To which IAF squadron leader Vijay Karnik (Ajay Devgn), along with 300 women from the local village Madhapar responded with a stealthy yet miraculous reconstruction of the whole airbase. Undoubtedly, Bhuj: The Pride of India is a story that leaves us with a heroic sense of unity that surfaces in our hearts during the ballad of shell-shocked bullets.

    But what is it lacking? Bhuj: The Pride of India has all the elements of a commercial film. It is intertwined with a mix of emotional cameo and aerial action scenes that twirls around a mix of action/drama compatibility but what the creators fail to understand is this pitch is great for a theatrical experience but with these over-the-top added components it is tough to impact the audiences on the OTT platform. 

    Abhishek Dudhaiya directorial leaves us with a spinal feel of a predicament where destruction was answered with construction, that too under a thick shade of resilience. It showcases an exemplary diary of events that establishes only the bravest frequency out of us. High sung are the praises of all 300 women to not only avoid the suspicion but adhere to a trek of cobblestones riddled with fatality. 

    A credit long overdue under blazing patriotism, Ajay Devgn starrer hits every stop of how an act of phoenix-like courage ignites a firm light of hopefulness in the darkest hour. A piece of an art form that transcends its viewers to see the pinnacle of true terrain of a malignant struggle created in the name of bullets and cannons. However, the honest heroism of war heroes that we saw in films like Uri:The surgical strike, LOC, and Border goes completely missing as our war hero here doesn’t portray the indomitable spirit.

    The film is hoarded by an exaggerated trail, and Bollywood talents like Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharad Kelkar, Amy Virk and Nora Fatehi tried hard to keep it pinned. But a weak storyline and scattered approach towards the characters fail to create a bond with the audience. Characters are introduced in flashes with a lot of back and forth movement. Thus creating a confusing mess from the starting itself.

    After Ajay Devgan, it’s only Sanjay Dutt as Ranchordas Svabhai Ravari ‘Pagi’ who gets a fair bit of the action in the film. A promising actor like Sharad Kelker who plays officer RK Nair too falls prey to the commercial aspect of the film and gets reduced to firing blanks. Sadly, the women in the film did not get an individual space of their own, they were always shown relying on the men to shore up the lackluster writing. Sonakshi Sinha (Sunderban Jetha Madharpaya) who appears in the final 30 minutes goes unnoticed. Nora Fatehi in the role of a spy Heena Rehman leaves you wondering about her presence in the film. 

    The cinematography team of the film did some magic and didn’t fail to portray the esteemed image of a brilliant cinematic direction. While the VFX is strictly passable, the sound is competent enough to transport you to the battlefield. 

    A sure streamer for all the avid movie watchers that can respire a feeling of confidence not only under the self-improvement section but under a patriotic unity-inducer. With well-sewed dialogues Bhuj: The Pride of India makes it to the must-watch list for this Independence Day. You should probably stop reading this and start watching now.

    Three-Tier Grievance Redressal Mechanism empowers citizens

    Rules establish a level playing field for traditional and digital media

    The Digital Media Ethics Code for OTT platforms and digital news publishers keeps the citizen at the heart of the grievance redressal mechanism, said Shri Vikram Sahay, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He added that the rules establish a soft touch co-regulatory architecture involving a Code of Ethics and a three-tier grievance redressal framework for publishers on digital media.

    Shri Sahay was addressing a webinar on the ‘Digital Media Ethics Code’ organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for the stakeholders in the northern states/UTs of Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. The webinar for the northern states was a continuation of the series of webinars organized by the Ministry through the regional units of the Press Information Bureau for stakeholders in various regions. These include webinars held for the southern, western, eastern, and north-eastern; and central regions during the month of June and July 2020.

    Shri Sahay made a brief presentation explaining the various aspects of ‘Digital Media Ethics Code’ such as the Code of Ethics for the publishers; the three-tier grievance redressal mechanism, and the provisions related to furnishing and disclosure of information by the digital media publishers. He informed that the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has received information from over 1,800 publishers and added that several bodies and associations of publishers have sent communication regarding the constitution of self-regulating bodies under the Rules.

    Digital news publishers, journalists, OTT platforms, and academia from the institutes of mass communication actively participated in the virtual interactive meeting. Several questions, doubts, and issues highlighted by the participants were addressed during the webinar. Representatives from the Information & Public Relations Departments of the states/UTs; and heads of the regional media units of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting also attended the event.
