    Climate and Geography

Pahalgam, which is about 2,130 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level, is situated on the banks of the Lidder River, a tributary of the Jhelum. Summer is the busiest travel season because it’s pleasant and perfect for outdoor activities. During the hot Indian summers, the town’s cool air and pleasant weather make it the ideal getaway destination.

    Cultural and Historical Importance

Pahalgam has religious and cultural significance in addition to its natural beauty. The yearly Amarnath Yatra, a revered pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave, which contains a naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam, begins there. Pahalgam is the starting point for thousands of Hindu pilgrims’ annual trek, making it a centre of religious activity during the yatra season.

The local culture is a beautiful blend of Kashmiri traditions, influenced by the semi-nomadic shepherds known as the Bakarwal and Gujjar communities. Their colourful attire, traditional music, and rustic way of life add to the area’s charm.

Traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, such as papier-mâché items, wooden carvings, and Pashmina shawls, are also available in the local markets.

    Sustainability and Tourism

Even though tourism contributes significantly to the local economy, sustainable practices are becoming more and more important in order to protect the area’s delicate ecosystem. To preserve the area’s natural charm, local government and environmental organisations are working to reduce plastic use, keep the area clean, and control construction.

How to Get to Pathalgam From Srinagar, which is roughly 90 kilometres away, Pathalgam is reachable by road. There is an airport in Srinagar that connects to important Indian cities.
