Nirav Modi: An Indian businessman involved in a $2 billion fraud at Punjab National Bank. He faces charges of money laundering, fraud, and embezzlement. In 2018, Nirav fled to the UK and sought political asylum. Swiss authorities have also frozen his assets worth $6 million.
Vijay Mallya: Known for the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines, Mallya has been declared a “willful defaulter” under Indian law. In 2017, he was convicted for contempt of court and ordered to repay millions with interest. Despite his legal appeals, India has been pursuing his extradition for years.
PM Modi’s emphasis on extradition has renewed hope for action against these fugitives. PM Starmer assured stronger collaboration on pending legal cases, reinforcing ties between the two nations.
